The Dogs Must Be Crazy – South Africa

Published on Friday, February 10, 2012 by

In ‘The Dogs Must be Crazy’, we follow Dog trainer Pam Whyte as she visits owners struggling with their dogs. Her radical thinking contradicts the views and techniques employed by other trainers: she believes that dogs are fundamentally incompatible with people, and with society as a whole. She also claims that if left unchecked, an overly excited and boisterous dog can turn into an aggressive one. Her manner may be abrasive – as some of the owners find out – but there is no denying her effectiveness. Through discussion with owners and by watching the way they behave around their dogs, Pam helps them to understand the reasons for their pet’s behaviour and the methods they can use to control them.

@gina100 I guess that depends where you look. From bulldogbreeds(dot)com “A forbearer to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they were originally bred to? be a fighting dog”. It is well known that they are good with THEIR family and children, but Pitts are aggressive towards others dogs by nature and sometimes people with serious consequences. I believe its because of hundreds of years of breeding much like why Greyhounds like to run and chase fluffy things.

@theslimeylimey Pitts were NEVER bred 4? killing.do your homework. they were used as ‘nanny’ dogs originally.

A DOG? SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO BE WALKED IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU DIDNT LIVE IN THE FUCKING CITY, WHERE YOU DONT NEED A DOG, PLUS MY COUNTRY FARM DOGS YES HAVE A COLLAR BUT HAVE NEVER SEEN A CHAIN, ROPE OR ANY KIND OF LEASH. HUMANS ARE FUCKED NOT DOGS.

@Spammmz Anyone who claims that behavior is not genetically hard wired into breeds like physical characteristics don’t understand dogs. Pitts exist because they were bred for killing and often still are and that instinctual behavior is often buried beneath the surface waiting for something to trigger it. I have a retired greyhound with a low prey drive and has never bolted on me but I always leash her near roads because I know one day something could trigger the hard? wired prey drive.

@Koodoze one? of the best dogs i ever met was a full bred pitty, its the owners.
and this is coming from a cat guy. so dont make judgements, pittys are strong, with their lock jaw and all. but still you cant say its the breed, look at the owners of most pittys (blacks) im not even being racist, maybe a bit strerotypical, but whatever, all use them because of the intimidation factor, and no animal should be used for that, so they have bad reps.

she is right in how she explains the hunting cycle and how dogs perceive the humans giving commands as barking. i have used this “ignoring”technique for? ages and it is quite effective. the dog “animal”doesnt perceive you as a prey or subordinate. there is much more to it and i am curious to see the rest of this doc. thanks for sharing these videos, cheers

Sometimes dogs can’t control their selves when they step out into the? house.. So, you must have knowledge on how to train them right, or else they will control you…

    @najd511

Dogs are great creatures – what kind of animals do? you like?

  • by TheHolyMolyPoly February 11, 2012 at 12:09 am

@Koodoze Yeah exactly that’s why it’s NOT fair to talk? about them like they were normal dogs (same goes vor Alabai, Kangal etc.).

That those dogs are dangerous doesn’t mean the normal breeds are. Get my drift?

  • by dreicemoney February 11, 2012 at 12:42 am

    this? is bullshit

  • by racingracing February 11, 2012 at 12:56 am

Looks like South African? needs a major introduction of Golden Retrievers, and deport the “pit-bulls-like” mentality dogs to The Sahara. ?

Aw, I? want to see that!

  • by deadlyram2k6 February 11, 2012 at 2:39 am

@AmusingYeti epic fail. natural selection? fail.

  • by shirosakijin February 11, 2012 at 3:01 am

Whats the name? of this song?

  • by AmusingYeti February 11, 2012 at 3:32 am

@deadlyram2k6 The problem is that so many dogs are bred for specific purposes (e.g to create new breeds) and most dogs would not be capable of surviving in the wild.?

  • by TheHolyMolyPoly February 11, 2012 at 4:30 am

It’s not fair from this guy to use an example with Pitbull? Terriers while he is talking about dogs in general.

  • by najd511 February 11, 2012 at 5:08 am

    I hate dogs!
I think it’s dirty and ugly
Only two things we can use dogs, for hunting? and guard.

  • by Tigertofflan February 11, 2012 at 5:29 am

That’s how it? goes when people get animals they don’t understand. It’s sad to see.
