Heres an update on that 460 gallon Cylinder Tank. It’s the ninetieth episode of LA Fishguys with Jim Stime of Aquarium Design in Thousand Oaks CALIF. In this three part episode Jim talks about acclimating and selecting new fish into an established tank.

hey B, it is very difficult to remove fish in that Cylinder tank as its deep and not much room beyond the Sculpture… so I am very selective with what goes in the tank….and very clever when trying to remove fish.
how would you ever take your fish out? 0_o a long ass net?
Fair enough do you know of any other good places I could maybe check for artificial ones? And I’ll check that out thanks very much!
hey T, that sculpture is one piece. those corals are mounted into the rock looking fiberglas body. look up DL Manwarren, they dont sell direct but you can ask.
Awesome tank! Can I ask where you got those artificial corals from and wether I can have them delivered to the UK? On a mad hunt for some! Thanks!
hey T, six years is real good, I’ve have very little sucsess with Starfish.
My bloody starfish ive had for 6 months got ripped to shreds today i guess my fish were pissed at me for not feeding them before i went out today haha.
you can have a shark in a 500 gallon tank. Just depends on the tipe of shark
hey O, 500 gallons really is not big enough for a proper shark tank, and producing a material list is part of how I generate an income for my business… so if you would like to hire me? BTW, before asking how much I charge it would be wise to contact your local Fish & Wildlife / Game and find out what they will allow in your area. nothing like spending big dollars and no being able to put anything ‘exciting’ into it.
hey sence u are a pro , can u help me in a list of things i be needing for a 500 gallon shark tank , thanks
Great video Jim, on your lafishguys website you haven’t put in the 100th episode. Also about territories and avoiding fish being territorial to new fish. In my tanks I move around the decorations for a few days after adding new fish. So no territories are really settled until the fish are sort of set in, then I return it to its former outfit.
Keep up the good work! looking forward to future episodes of the 1000 gallon reef tank!
@lafishguy you could always talk him/her into adding things like hippos yellow’s purples koles ECT. something that is easyer to not as susceptible to ich as say a powder blue.
hey Z, i had planned on it, and I would like to but the home owner feels the tank is doing well as it is and does not wish to tempt fate by adding something more to perfection.
Do you ever plan on adding tangs to this tank?
hey G, its a difficult tank to clean as its deep and very little extra room. I have a brush on a long stick I use to clean the sculpture. the only way to ‘pull’ the sculpture is to disassemble to the entire tank.
How do you access say the middle to bottom of the tank? Do you pull out the entire fake coral central consle? I’ve seen slightly bigger ones where people actually go in to access it but there isn’t enough room in this one I think…
may i just say that i think your tank is bloody awesome!!! And nice advice
hey jim m waitting for more updates plssss
hey S, i would expect the Yellow Tang to become very territorial. The Blue Tang is very timid. If you are willing to watch the Blue get harrassed by the Yellow then try it.
hey jim, i want another tang, so bad i have a yellow now, i know in the future i’m gonna get a bigger over a 120 gallon tang so i can house a lot of tangs but i have a yellow tang, and i’ve seen this blue tang my very trustworthy petstore that i got to every other week for supplies and stuff for all my tanks and pond. and they have a little hippo blue tang about 1 1/2 inches and my yellow is about 5 inches he hasn’t seemed to grow much in the last year whats your advice on getting the hippo

hey R, as far as fish, maybe a pair of clowns and then tangs. as for coral there are the mushrooms and various polyps, next level is soft and leather corals, then the large polyp hard corals and then the ultimate is the SPS or staghorn corals. you should do more research as each level requires more light and more calcium additions.
@vin87 Tie a piece of chicken or shrimp to a string and hang it in the water for a few minutes with the lights off. the crabs will grab the chicken and you should be able to lift them up and scoop them with a net. It’s a fun and easy way of doing it. This works best at night though.
